Natural Wedding Photography

Hi. Thanks for dropping by.  I'm a professional Dublin wedding photographer based in Swords and  I specialise in a blend of documentary style wedding photography along with elegant portraiture of the bride & groom and of course their families.  My wedding photography (including engagement photo shoots) is not just confined to leinster but takes me all over Ireland.  However, I also cover the rest of Europe and every year I photograph various destination weddings.

My modern reportage style covers everything from the excitement and the details of getting ready for your big day, through the emotional ceremony and some creative portraits, to you and your guests enjoying your reception.  For the most part of the day you and your guests, won’t even know I am there when I take the photo. Therefore your photos are more spontaneous, authentic and right in the moment.

Even though for a lot of the day I am standing back out of the way, I also cover all the more formal wedding photos of family and friend groups that you want.

I cater for all types of weddings - civil ceremonies or traditional church weddings as well as gay and lesbian wedding photography anywhere in Ireland.  My typical clients are couples who appreciate good photography and an excellent service but do not want the traditional style of stiff posed wedding photographs.  Rather something more natural and discrete that will tell the story of their day.

In a nutshell, I specialise in creating candid wedding photos, or in other words really natural photographs of all the happenings on your wedding day.  I aim to ensure that my photography is discrete, that it captures totally relaxed, natural expressions of you and your guests.  I'm skilled in anticipating and photographing the emotions of your day, allowing me to capture the memories you will want to remember for years to come.

I won't take you away for hours...!

I'm not one of those photographers that will take you away from your guests for hours on end.  If you do wish to include some photos of just the two of you away from your guests, I just need a short time and using an informal approach, I aim to make this time as chilled and enjoyable as possible.

For your portraits, I'm about keeping it natural.  I really don't like to pose people.  In fact, I hate the word.  Instead I give a little bit of direction by saying 'walk down here away from the camera' or 'stand here and chat to each other'.  (If I feel that you perhaps need a little more direction or for example you are standing in a way that is not complimentary, then I will of course help you).  Whilst standing away at a distance with a long lens, I'll then capture some moments when your expressions and postures come together naturally.  This always works and it keeps things really natural for every couple.  Rarely are you even looking at the camera.  With this relaxed approach you can really enjoy your day, focusing on the real events as they happen!  And after all, if you enjoy the session this will come across in the photos.

In preparation for any wedding, I will try and get to know you both as much as possible beforehand thereby ensuring that you are more relaxed with me on your wedding day. This ensures that we can achieve more natural, intimate style photographs and have a laugh doing so....!

Having said all that there are of course some couples who are a little bit more comfortable in front of the camera and would like some more posed, dramatic or fashiony (if thats a real word...!) type of photographs.  If so, no problem....  You just have to say and we will plan for this in advance...!

The party

Wedding receptions are a lot more than food and cake cutting.  I can be there for all of it.  I can document the speeches, laughter, killer dance moves of aunty Mary, and emotions of all your friends and family.

I normally stay until the first few dances but if desired I can stay for an extra hour or so.

I'm constantly looking out for emotions

Weddings are emotional roller coasters and I'm there to discretely capture them.  I am always on the lookout for moments of emotion and I thrive on capturing real emotions.  On photographing real moments – not posing you in anyway, or setting up shots, but rather capturing natural events as they happen..

I believe they represent the best highlights and story of your day. For some, that might mean enjoying a laugh together, for others it might mean wiping a tear away or an emotional parent.  Either way, I'm always watching.

Hi Dave The photos are beautiful. You’ve done a wonderful job and I shall certainly be passing along your name to any friends or family members in Ireland or Wales getting married in the future! I just wanted to say thank you for being so professional from start to finish and for helping me to remain calm on the day! I usually take photos really badly as having my photo taken makes me uncomfortable but I look so relaxed and happy in the photos and I know a lot of it was down to your relaxed and fun approach! Thank-you again so much Dave. I think we were very lucky to have you capture our special day! Kindest Regards
— Cathryn & Stephen

Whether you are engaged, about to get engaged, living in Ireland or just visiting for a holiday, why not consider an engagement shoot.  I love engagement shoots as there are generally little time restrictions which means that we can take our time to get some fantastic shots of the two of you in beautiful locations.  I am happy to arrange an engagement portrait session anywhere in Dublin or indeed anywhere in Ireland.  There are loads of fantastic locations for photography and I am happy to recommend or help you choose the right place for you.
