Stunning Wild Atlantic Way Engagement Shoot

The stunning natural beauty of the Wild Atlantic Way is perfectly suited to wedding and engagement photography and this is where Holly & Chris from the US chose for their Wild Atlantic Way Engagement Shoot.

Holly & Christopher’s Wild Atlantic Way Engagement Shoot

This was an extended engagement shoot – a full day. Might seem like a long time to some but its a great way particularly for visitors to Ireland to not only get some great photos but to see the countryside from the comfort of being chauffeured in a private car. Consider it as a private tour with opportunities to stop off in some great locations and get some great photos..!

This type of shoot requires a bit more planning than usual so our initial Skype call was to have a chat and see what Holly & Chris were thinking in terms of locations. They were going to be in Galway and were keen to do this in the area and to include a castle if possible. No problem…! Castles are our thing. I proposed two routes for them one taking in Galway, Ashford castle and driving south into the Burren whist the other took us north and into Connemara National Park, Ashford castle and ending with (hopefully…!) a sunset shot along the west coast.

A second Skype call firmed up all the logistics and the date. I happened to be shooting a wedding the Glenlo Hotel in Galway the previous day so the following morning I collected Holly & Chris from their hotel and we set off.

Ashford Castle

First stop was the wonderful Ashford Castle where you could spend hours walking and photographing. We ended up spending most of the morning there before grabbing a quick lunch in Cong a picturesque little village made famous by the filming of The Quiet Man starring John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara.

Connemara National Park

Then it was into Connemara National Park where I had a few spots already chosen in advance for photos. As we had loads of time, I also got the opportunity to launch a drone and get some shots which otherwise would have been impossible. Happy days…!!

Wild Atlantic Way

Holly & Chris were really comfortable in front of the camera by this stage and had also perfected the art of quick costume changes in the back of a car..! By the time evening came around, it was time to get to a pre-chosen beach for that sunset shot. We actually had a beautiful day – nice temperatures, dry, clear skies and sunny all day so it really looked promising for a lovely sunset. This is Ireland however and when the time came, so did the clouds… So no dramatic sunset – just a very dramatic dark skyline but by this stage it didn’t matter. We had a great set of photos that Holly and Chris will have as a reminder of their time together in Ireland for the rest of their lives. Quite a few kilometres covered on this day but had an absolute blast doing it with this great couple. Holly and Chris also got to see a lot of the Irish countryside as part of the Wild Atlantic Way that they otherwise wouldn’t have been able to. So a win win all around.

Here is what Holly & Chris had to say about their Wild Atlantic Way Engagement Shoot:

My fiance and I (from Columbus, Ohio) arranged to meet David on the West Coast of Ireland for a full day engagement shoot. David pre-planned our route (after talking with us over Skype months in advance of our trip), and took us to the most amazing locations! We loved spending the day with David, and appreciated him driving us around to all of our locations while we sat back and enjoyed experiencing the Wild Atlantic Way (something we wouldn’t have done otherwise). Neither of us were used to being photographed in a professional setting like this (and it was our first time being photographed together!), but David made it easy for us to relax and enjoy the whole experience. We can’t say enough how pleased we are with the photos (I currently have 5 hanging in my office, and a rotating selection of 10 or so for my computer wallpaper). We had such a wide variety of landscapes that many people asked us if we took our engagement photos over multiple days! Chris and I were shocked with how quickly we got our photos back from David–we were both so pleased with the quality of David’s work. It has truly been a pleasure for Chris and I (as well as our parents) to celebrate our engagement with such wonderful photos, and for us to share and to remember our Ireland trip together with such breathtaking landscapes! David was also wonderful in being accommodating to our MANY outfit changes! 🙂 Thank you so much David!
